JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Directs medical care of all hospital patients
- Assesses with admission history and physical exam the appropriateness of treatment, level of care and detoxification on an individual basis
- Determines appropriateness and stability for the next level of care.
- Provides 24 hour/7 days a week coverage for all inpatients, detox and residential.
- Provides immediate medical attention to all residents when needed.
- Provides follow-up in residential on all patients at least one time
- Provides High Risk suicide assessment input as team member.
- Coordinates psychiatric consultation, follow-up and treatment recommendations.
- Attends daily 8 am (and 8:45 am staff meetings as needed).
- Attends High Risk staffings when held.
- Member of Medical Affairs Committee
- Chairs Infectious Disease Committee
- Facilitates weekly 1-1/4 hour Health Professional Group
- Written and telephonic contact with licensing boards for all health professionals, including summary discharge letter
- Consults with Admissions and Outpatient offices on potentially problematic medical aspects of pending admissions
- Attends bi-monthly nurses' meeting
- Attends monthly peer review
- Attends bi-monthly psychiatric consults with licensed psychiatrist
- Conducts lectures on disease concept, nicotine and sleep disorders (6 hours monthly)
- Conducts intern training sessions quarterly on disease, pain, HIV/STDs and co-morbidity
- Visits outpatient offices quarterly for staffings and training
- Communicates with insurance companies to review authorizations whenever needed
- Provide chart review to outpatient program as requested
- Conduct family lecture to Eugene outpatient program quarterly
- Attends and participates in weekly Clinical Core
- Networks with other community serves and agencies as requested
- Assess chronic pain and addiction appropriateness for treatment
- Ongoing monitoring of opiate treatment protocols
- Maintain CME and expert knowledge in field of Addiction Medicine in other specialty
- Available for immediate orders of all admits to hospital to review detox protocol on individual patients
- Formulate and dictate medical discharge summaries on all patients within 30 days of discharge
- Introduce health professional patients to Caduceus self-help groups
QUALIFICATIONS: Current Medical Practitioner's license from Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. ASAM Credentialing desirable. Knowledge of family practice or internal medicine
